It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of John on February 11, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family at 96 years of age. Cherished husband of Angela for 67 years. John was a remarkable father to Gianfranco (John) (Rebecca), Gabriel (Cecile). Adored grandfather of Cassandra (Alasdair), Michael, Peter (Monica) and Danny (Hannah). Beloved great grandfather of Rosie, and Bruno. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters Grazietia Pasquarelli (Giovanni), Antonio (Marietta), Elvira Dethomasis (Paolo), Marianna Carinci (Giovanni). Beloved son of the late Donato and Marietta D’Amore. John is survived by many nieces and nephews. John was an active member at St. John the Baptist Church and worked as a pastoral care minister for 12 years. A proud member of the Lay Basilian Fathers. He retired from Ontario Hydro after 34 years of dedicated service. Being very community orientated John not only formed the choir at the Giuseppe Verdi Club in Amherstburg but was also a past president as well. John was an honorary 4th degree Knights of Columbus member. A proud Veteran of WW2, John was awarded the Cross of Merit for his dedication and devotion to his fellow soldiers and going above and beyond the call of duty. Following his service in the army John still went above and beyond for his fellow man by organizing a food bank and helping the Italian community with their pensions. John’s passions in life were spending time with his family, making wine and working in his garden. John’s family would like to thank the CCAC for all of their outstanding care and support provided to our husband and father. If you desire memorial tributes may be made to the St. John the Baptist restoration fund. Visiting on Tuesday from 2-5 and 7-9 pm. With parish and K of C prayers at 8:00 p.m. Funeral service on Wednesday February 15, 2017 at 9:45 am from the Families First, 585 Sandwich St. South Amherstburg, 519-969-5841 then proceeding to St. John the Baptist Church for 10: 30 am Mass. Interment to follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
