Avis de décès de Michael Jospeh GILFOY check_circle

Surrounded by love and incredible support, Mike passed away at his Nova Scotia home on Tuesday August 8, 2017 after a brave battle with cancer.

Beloved husband of Susan Gilfoy. Proud father of Kim, Cara and Meghan Gilfoy and son in law Bob Graham. Adoring Papa of Jac, Lily, Molly, Ellie and Everly. Oldest brother of Tim & Joan Gilfoy, Eileen Shabala, Hal & Tann Gilfoy, Marty & Barbie Gilfoy, Danny Gilfoy & Michael Waugh and Kevin & Allana Gilfoy. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold & Nellie Gilfoy. He will be sadly missed by his nieces, nephews and many friends.

Mike was born and raised in Williams Point in Antigonish, NS. He moved to Ontario in the early 70’s to begin his career as a pipe fitter, and to start his family. He spent over 30 years working with OPG both at The Bruce & Darlington plants. He was an active member at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Newcastle, as well as the Knights of Columbus. He retired in 2005 and with the help of his family he built a cottage by the ocean in Cape Jack, NS where he spent his summers and his final days. His quiet nature, but strong & determined presence will be missed immensely.

Susan, Kim, Cara & Meghan would like to thank the staff at St. Martha’s Hospital in the ER and PCU, as well as the VON and the Palliative Care team for the compassionate healthcare they provided over the past several weeks. Thank you to our friends and neighbours for your thoughts, prayers, visits and meals. Many thanks to Mike’s brothers, sister and their spouses for their overwhelming support in sharing in the responsibility in keeping Mike comfortable in his Nova Scotia home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ninian’s Cathedral in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on Saturday August 12th, 2017 at 11 am. A Memorial Mass will also be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church Newcastle in the next weeks. Arrangements will be posted once confirmed.
