John A. Shields, of London at the age of 84, after a long and brave battle with cancer, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, January 30, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London. Beloved husband to Glenda Shields (nee Scharf) and devoted father to Paul (Pat) Shields of Glencoe and Melanie Shields (Chris Sayler) of Glencoe. John was a loving (Poppa) to Jamie (Brandie Elliott), Ben and Samantha Shields and Rebecca (Kyle Levac) and Danielle (Todd Hunter) Verkin. John is survived by two brothers and two sisters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 1:30 pm with visitation an hour prior to the service, (12:30pm-1:30 pm) at the Van Heck Funeral Home, 172 Symes Street, Glencoe. John will later be interred at Woodland Cemetery. Memorial donations would be greatly appreciated to the London Regional Cancer Program à Myeloma Research Fund (cheques payable to LRCP-Myeloma Research Fund), St. Joseph’s Hospice, London or the charity of your choice.
