Marion Bernice Hastie (nee Rae), of Hanover, formerly of Bentinck Township, passed away peacefully at SBGHC – Chesley on Thursday, November 14, 2013, in her 86th year.

Born on August 29, 1928 to the late Gordon and Mary (nee Corlett) Rae in Brant Township. Marion was an active community volunteer, including 4-H, the Desboro Agricultural Society and a member of the Crawford United Church and Louise Womens’ Institute. She was well known and respected for her cooking, sewing and quilting and her fall fair judging skills. She was a member of Bluewater, 5 Star and New Millennium Quilters Guilds and a former member of the Hanover Hospital Auxiliary and Hanover Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed sharing in the everyday moments, experiences and accomplishments of her family and friends. She made the most of every day and she faced her health challenges this past year with courage, strength and optimism that was a role model for all.

Marion was the proud mother of Eleanor Hastie of Oshawa, Helen (John) Peppler of RR 1 Elmwood, Gordon (Leslie) Hastie of RR 3 Elmwood and Donna (Dale) Watke of RR 4 Hanover. She cherished her time with her grandchildren Jonathan (Kayla) Peppler, Graham and Ryan Hastie and Jason, Amanda and Lukas Watke. Marion was a special sister to Eleanor Krauter and second (mom) to Marie Krauter both of RR 3 Elmwood. She will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law Donelda Hastie of Elmwood and her brother-in-law Gerald Hastie of Ancaster and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 38 years, Murray, in 1989, and infant daughter (1957), her brother Grant Sweiger, brothers-in-law Bob Hastie, Lloyd Krauter, sisters-in-law Iris Sweiger and Marjory Hastie.

Visitation will be held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers and in recognition of her community involvement and her appreciation of the quality of health care she received, memorial donations can be made to the Crawford United Church, SBGHC Foundation à Chesley or to the London Regional Cancer Program.
