Mary Isabel Dool (nee Sherlock) died peacefully on August 24th, 2017 at Henley Place in London, Ontario, at the age of 90. Predeceased by her husband William Dool, her parents Catherine (O’Brien) and John Joseph Sherlock, and her brothers, Reverend William Sherlock, James Sherlock, and Reverend Philip Sherlock. Mourned by her children David (Laura), Mary Hine (Les), Catherine, and John (Patricia); her grandchildren Megan Hine (Peter), Karen Van Ham (Michael), Rachel Gloudemans (Adam), Matthew, Daniel (Megan), William, and Alexandra Smither, and her great grandchildren Jack and Lucy Gloudemans; her siblings Gerald Sherlock (Bernice), Most Reverend John Michael Sherlock (Bishop Emeritus of London), Eleanor Monahan (Edward), Allan Sherlock (Anna Marie), and many nieces and nephews and friends. Born in Regina, Mary grew up in Brantford, received her B.A. from the University of St. Michael’s College and her M.S.W. from St. Patrick’s College in Ottawa. Inspired by her Catholic faith, she dedicated her life to service in her work and in her parish community. She worked for many years at Family and Children’s Services Niagara as a social worker, a supervisor, and eventually as director of Human Resources. Before and after retirement she was involved with many charitable organizations as a volunteer and member of advisory boards, including Bethlehem Place, Birthright, the YWCA, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Alfred’s Parish, where she was a parishioner for many years. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff at Henley Place in London and to Dr. Frank Shin for their kindness and dedication in caring for Mary in her last years. Visitation will be at Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London, on Wednesday, August 30th from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM, with parish prayers beginning at 7 PM. Visitation resumes at the Chapel at Windermere on the Mount, 1486 Richmond Street, London, on Thursday, August 31st from 9:30-11 AM, followed immediately by the Mass of Christian Burial. Cremation to follow with interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Refugee Sponsorship Initiative of Christ the King University Parish, London.
