Peacefully in hospital on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, surrounded by the love of her family. Born December 15, 1927 in Truro, Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. James Hendry. She is survived by her beloved husband Anthony Parsons, her treasured sons James (Virginia), Paul (Pamela), Graeme (Shawnda) and Scott (Trina) and step-children Kathryn and Jonathan Parsons. Proud and loved grandmother of Michael (Jessica), David, Alana, Callum, Maryn, Angelica, Nora and Rowan and great-grandmother of Logan and Madelyn. She will also be greatly missed by Barbara Kincaid, mother of Michael and David, and sister-in-law Barbara Goodman. Shirley was an accomplished and progressive woman; she was a graduate of Dalhousie University earning her BA, a teacher at Branksome Hall Private School for Girls in Toronto, a librarian with the Kanata Library, Founder of the Kanata Chapter of the University Women’s Club, recipient of the Kanata Citizen of the Year Award, coordinator of the Seniors Recreation Program-South March, long time active member of St. John’s Anglican Church à South March, and volunteer with the Ottawa Music Festival – to name just a few of the many community organizations she was involved with and took such pride and pleasure in.
