Bert passed away peacefully on July 13, 2016 in the Oakville hospital at the age of 91. Dearly loved by his wife Kathleen for 56 years, Bert was a devoted father to Anne (Rob Muru) and Jamie (Yani Hamdani), a loving grandfather to Jackie, Matti, Graydon and Zoe and a proud uncle of Paul, Steph, Jen, Sam and Greg. Bert grew up in Montreal with his brother and best friend, the late Sam Davidson. Upon turning 18, Bert enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served his country overseas during WWII. When the war ended, Bert returned to Montreal where he met and married Kathleen, a former Red Cross nurse. Together they raised their family and lived in many different parts of Eastern Canada before settling in Oakville. Bert will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his enthusiasm and zest for life. Visitation will take place at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (905-844-2600) on Monday, July 18 from 6 to 9 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville (905-844-3303) at 10 am on Tuesday, July 19. Donations may be made in Bert’s memory to Steph’s Place at the Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children, www.grievingchildrenlighthouse.org. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses of the Kensington Retirement Home and the Oakville Hospital for their care and kindness as well as Dr. T. DaSilva for his many years of friendship and dedication.
