At His appointed time, the Lord called Catherine Groendyk to her eternal home on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at North Lambton Lodge at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late John Groendyk (1994) and loving mother of Alida (2009) and Ed Hightower, Anne and Arnie Toenders, Art and Shirley Groendyk, John and Pat Groendyk, Cathy and John Sipkens, Joyce and Rick Hultink and Margaret and John Noorloos. Cherished grandmother of 30 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Survived by her brother and his wife, Henk and Rie Staal, sister-in-law Ali Groendyk, brother-in-law Ide Groendyk and his wife Giny, all of the Netherlands, and sister-in-law Eve Kugel of Belleville, Ontario. Predeceased by her sister Meta and brother Frederik. As family we express gratitude to the staff at North Lambton Lodge for their kindness and compassionate care for the last five months of Catherine’s life. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, 1885 London Line, on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., with the funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Reformed Church at the corner of Exmouth and Murphy, with Pastor John Hellinga officiating.
