Peacefully at Bluewater Health on Thursday, November 7, 2013, George Downie passed away at the age of 94, with his sister and nephew at his side. Loving father of Michael Downie of Oshawa and Deborah (David) Ellacott of Ridgetown. Cherished grandfather of Kelly Downie, Randy Downie, Lauren Ellacott and Adam Ellacott and great-grandfather of Cole Downie. Dear brother of M. Jean Evans (late Mac) and brother-in-law of Louise Downie (late Jerry). Dear father-in-law of Barbara (Des) Downie. Predeceased by: brothers Ken (Mary), Athol (Ruth), Joe (Betty), and Freddy; sister Clara Dunford; parents Clarence and Nellie; and granddaughter Melisa Ellacott.George worked at Sarnia Hydro for 38 years and was a WWII veteran. He was gregarious, outgoing, loved to meet new people, and loved dancing. George will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. Cremation has taken place. A memorial open house will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the SMITH FAMILY CENTRE (in front of Smith Funeral Home), 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please).
