Zambito, Calogero – Suddenly on Thursday May 11, 2017 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 72 after doing what he loved the most, working on his family farm. Loving husband of 47 years to Rosalia (nee Mazza). Devoted dad to Joseph (Sara) and Carmela (Henry) Passano. Cherished Nonno to Calogero, Elena, Juliet, Enrique and Liliana. Will be sadly missed by his sister Anna Fiannaca, sisters-in-law Rosa, Carmela Agnino, Rosa Marano, Maria (Battista) Vendittelli and brothers-in-law Joe (Josephine) Mazza, Frank (Rita) Mazza, Angelo (Lucia) Mazza, Vince (Lucia) Mazza, and Sam (Franca) Mazza. Calogero will be fondly remebered by his nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Carmela, his parents-in-law Martino and Rosaria Mazza, brother Francesco, brothers-in-law Giovanni Fiannaca, Angelo Agnino, Nick Marano and niece Rosemary Marano. Calogero worked at Port Weller Dry Docks as a welder for over 30 years. He enjoyed playing cards at the Italian Cafe on Facer Street, and being on his peach farm for the last 30 years, especially driving his tractor. What Calogero loved the most was his Sicilian heritage and to be with all of his family around the table for Sunday lunches.
Public gathering will be held at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street on Sunday May 14, 2017 between 2-4 and 6-9 pm. Vigil prayers will be on Sunday in the funeral home at 2:30 pm. Funeral Liturgy will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 73 Picton Street, on Monday at 11 am. Entombment will follow at Pleasantview Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Association in Calogero’s honour.
