Passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Heidehof Home for the Aged at the age of 91. Cherished wife of the late Ed Ford for 63 years. Beloved mother of Michael (Mary) of St. Catharines, Margaret (Peter) Coughlin of Kingston, Fred of Victoria, B.C., Loretto (Jim) Woods of St. Catharines, Mary (Mark) Simmonds of Fenwick, Denis (Silvana) of Niagara Falls, Kevin (Ann) of Delta B.C. and Dan (Maureen) of St. Catharines. Special Grandma of Kevin & Sara Ford, Kathleen (John), Danielle (Grant) and Brendan Coughlin, Paul and Colleen Woods, Jannette (Greg Chambers), Rebecca (Nathan Sherwood), Jason (Teresa), Patrick (Jessica), Christopher, Katie (Shane) Simmonds, Patricia, Kristina and Julia Ford, Kieran and Kiana Ford, Ellen and Jack Ford. Great grandma of Nicholas, Jacob, Madeline, Joshua, Hunter, Mark and Addison. Loving sister of Anne (the late David) Loomis of Texas. Predeceased by her parents Fred and Josephine Brennan, her brother Edward and by her sister Mary (the late John) Lahey. Eleanor is the sister-in-law of Jackie (the late Bernard) Mathews, Dan Ford, Sr. Loretto Ford (Mildred), Nora (the late Rudy) Corsini, Michael (Karen) Ford, all of Hamilton, Patrick (Marge) Ford of Kingston, and Maureen (Albert) Bochsler of Ancaster. Also predeceased by Ed’s brother, John Ford and Ed’s sisters Mary Catherine (the late Bernard) Gallagher, Loretto (the late Gerald) Beninger, Helen (the late Jack) Barry, Colleen (Robert) Dean of Hamilton, Rosalie Ford and Marcielle Berry. As a devoted Catholic, Mrs. Ford was a member of St. Julia’s Church and the Catholic Women’s League. Eleanor was a very proud and dedicated nurse at the Hotel Dieu Hospital in St. Catharines. She was a member of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario. Eleanor will be remembered for her quick wit and her great sense of humour. Eleanor’s greatest love was for her husband Ed, her 8 children and many grandchildren. A sincere thank you to all the staff at Heidehof for all their care and compassion. The family will receive visitors at the GEORGE DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Wednesday, March 9, from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday, March 10 from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers will take place on Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Julia Roman Catholic Church, 251 Glenridge Ave., on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11a.m. Rite of Committal to follow Mass, at Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations to Heidehof Home for the Aged would be appreciated by the family.
