HIGGINBOTTOM à Sadie Anne (nee Providenti) of St. Thomas passed away peacefully at Elgin Manor on August 28, 2013 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Edward John Higginbottom. Adored mother of Sandra (Bud) Westaway of St. Thomas. Sadly missed by granddaughters Cynthia (Scott) Westaway-Little of Old Chelsea, Quebec, and their children Tiana and Carly, Elizabeth Westaway of London, and her children Richard Moore, Ginelle Row, Richelle Row, and Genna-Lynne Row; grandson Edward Westaway of Aylmer, and grandson David (Patti) Westaway of St. Thomas, and their children Olivia, Alyssa, and Ian. Also missed by her siblings Francis (Bill) Wassell and Mary Burrell (the late Wilfred), Lee Providenti (the late Sam), Al Sasso (the late Hazel), Grace Vincent (the late Bob). Special aunt to Linda (Ken) Hobbs of St. Thomas and Nancy (Don) McCosh of London, and many other loved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Sadie and Frank Providenti; her great granddaughter Hanna; and Ernest and Lettie Higginbottom, Bill and Tina Benson, Lionel and Beatrice Emberson, Lynn and Grace Daugharty, and Isabel Providenti. Prior to her retirement, Sadie had been a Social Worker with St. Thomas Association for Community Living. Her community involvement was extensive, as she was a founding member of the Caring Cupboard, past board member of the St. Thomas Seniors Centre, board member of the Thomas Williams Home, and belonged to Central United Church. Sadie’s family wishes to thank her caregivers and friends at Metcalfe Gardens and Elgin Manor for their many kindnesses over the years. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by a Memorial Service in the chapel at 11:00. Interment in Elmdale Cemetery at a later date. If desired, donations to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation or the Association for Community Living, would be appreciated.
