Mr. Girard was born on February 10th, 1929, in Cochrane, Ontario. He was the beloved husband of Olive Gubb. (Florian and Olive celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary on December 12th, 2015). He was the loving father of Guy of Sudbury, ON, Nancy Carriere (Raymond) of Ottawa, ON and Kenneth (Judy) of Camrose, AB, and devoted grandfather of Julie Carriere, Nicole Carriere, Joel Carriere (Sophie and expected baby boy) of Ottawa, Stacy Padilla (Daniel) and Curtis Gunderson (Lana) of Camrose, adoring great grandfather of Cameron, Brendan, Jordan and Preston of Ottawa and Abby, Evan, Rendahl and Haidee of Camrose.
Mr. Girard was predeceased by his parents Allard Girard (1983) and Dolores (Gauthier) (2002), his only sibling, Maurice and his wife Ghislaine of Kincardine, his brothers in law James and Percy Gubb and sister in law Marina (Gubb) Morill. He leaves sisters in law Doreen Stewart (Findlay predeceased), Zita Bradley (Raymond predeceased), Margaret Jardine (Edward), Joy Holota (Ed predeceased) and Marie Gubb. He also leaves many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Mr. Girard worked for Gulf Oil in Cochrane and Noranda, Que., prior to being transferred to Sudbury with Petro Canada as a tank truck driver, retiring in 1987, after 27 years service.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch Street, Sudbury.
At his request there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Florian’s life will be held in late April. Cremation to be followed at a later date by interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Cochrane, ON..
