Avis de décès de John HANYCH check_circle

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful and somewhat unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather at the Norwood Nursing Home. John leaves behind his wife of 71 years, Chrystyna (Dykowycz), his daughter Merika (Marijka) Graham Skirko, his grandson Jonathan (Jon) Bruce Graham (wife Beth) and his precious little great granddaughter Sadiya (Sadie). He joins his son-in-law Leonid Skirko and seven of his siblings who predeceased him, leaving behind his youngest brother Josef in Ukraine and many members of the Perohanycz and Dykowycz families scattered throughout Ukraine.

John Hanych was a highly respected and much loved, cultured gentleman, a very kind, generous, ever-grateful, even-keeled and rational man who was also a philanthropist to the point of self-sacrifice.

Moving from Ukraine (then Poland) to Austria/Germany, to England and finally to Canada, he escaped Nazism and Communism to forge a better life. He was a stationery engineer for the Toronto Terminals Railway (Union Station) for most of his career, and volunteered at the Ukrainian Social Services, preparing income tax returns for senior citizens. He valued his family, was a Ukrainian patriot and enjoyed living in this free country. He will be sorely missed, as he was a true role model for bearing his burdens with integrity and dignity, never complaining.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the Norwood Nursing home for the exceptional care which he received in the year that he spent there. We were always sure that he was in good hands and valued by the staff. Most of his own friends have now departed this earth and he leaves behind a very small family on this continent, so that made his Norwood family all the more important.
