Avis de décès de Harvey STRIDE check_circle

Harvey Stride’s story began in Exploits, Newfoundland, in the care of his loving parents Laura and Cecil. Along with his sister, Vela, he embarked on his lifelong adventure. From his days as a child scrambling over the outport rocks, to his heroic efforts in rescuing sailors from the S.S Langleecrag shipwreck at St. Anthony, he was always enamoured with the sea and his beloved Newfoundland. As a young man he helped support the Ferry Command during World War II at Gander airport, and later developed his skills as a weather and radio technician at the St. Anthony post office.

He immigrated to Canada in 1948 and explored every road in Ontario while working as a salesman for everything from encyclopedias to sewing machines. Mutual friends introduced him to Doris and their adventure of married life together began in Toronto on July 25, 1953. Harvey’s love affair with the outdoors took the growing family on camping trips to most Ontario Provincial Parks, the most favourite being Killbear, near Parry Sound. Music always played a prominent role in Harvey’s life. The children all shared his love of music and the outdoors.

Harvey’s production management career began with General Electric and ended with Kodak, from where he retired in 1987. Retirement took Harvey and Doris to Vittoria, near Lake Erie, where Harvey spent time on his hobbies including wood-working and teaching his grand-children to fish off the pier at Port Dover. The year 2000 saw them move from Vittoria to Uxbridge to be closer to family.

Harvey Stride died peacefully at his home in Uxbridge on Friday, September 22, 2017. He is sadly missed by his wife, Doris (Norman) as well as his children Sandra (William Capill), Linda (Blair Webb), Chris (Stella Kokoros) and Wanda (John Futhey). Harvey is also survived by his sister, Vela Roberts (the late Eric Roberts) and her family. He was a loving grandfather to Jennifer Fabro (Jason Sooley), Michael Fabro (Erin Dilkes Fabro), Catie and Sam Futhey, Emma Webb, along with great-grandson Lennox Harvey Fabro.

Visitation will be held at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main St., S., Uxbridge (905-852-3073) on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place at Woodville United Church, 104 King St, Woodville on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
