Surrounded by her loving family, Lena Devries passed away on August 12, 2016 at Joseph Brant Hospital. Lena, 69, leaves her husband of 50 years, Paul Devries; her daughter Jane (and Gary); daughter Terésa (and Dave); son Paul Jr.; grandsons Jamie and Jon; and son-in-law John. Lena also leaves her brothers Len and Ed and their families, numerous relatives in Canada and the Netherlands, as well as many close friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents Wobbe and Jantje.
Born in Drachten, Netherlands, Lena came to Canada with her family in 1957 and settled in Hamilton. She and Paul married in 1966, starting their family. They lived in Richmond, BC from 1969 to 1975 and Millgrove, ON from 1975 to 1996. They spent the last 20 years living in Aldershot. Lena co-owned Canway Equipment with Paul from 1986 to 2001, and she led the company’s office administration. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed labouring among the flowers. Many summer weekends were spent on the shores of Rice Lake, watching the beautiful sunsets. Being young at heart and playful, she cherished time spent playing games with grandchildren, family and friends. Her friendship, sense of humour, guidance and compassion will be missed by all who knew her.

Visitation will be held for Lena on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at WESTDALE REFORMED CHURCH, 201 Paradise Rd. N., Hamilton. The Funeral Service will take place at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Watedown on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11 am. Interment to follow at Mt. Hamilton Cemetery. Donations can be made in Lena’s name to Drummond House, Waterdown.
