Passed away peacefully on April 6, 2017. She was born in Windsor on February 11, 1927 to Jack (1974) and Evelyn (1993) Thompson. Shirley leaves behind her loving children Bill (Valerie), Norm (Rhonda), Nancy MacDonald (Terry Botting) and Bob (Sadie). She is survived by her brother Dr. Robert (Agnes) Thompson of Richmond, BC., 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her brother John (Jack) Thompson (2015). Her dedication to the special needs children in Windsor resulted in the re-naming and rededication of a learning centre on April 21, 1983 by the Windsor Association for the Mentally Retarded. The facility is now named the Shirley E. Taylor Centre for Pre-school Children. Special thanks to Compassionate Care by Dawn and to the truly professional staff of Richmond Terrace Long Term Care. Shirley was truly a remarkable and inspirational woman. Friends may call at MORRIS SUTTON FUNERAL HOME, 68 Giles Blvd East (519-254-8633) on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 from 6PM to 9PM. A Funeral Service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held in the Chapel of Morris Sutton Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10AM. Interment to follow at Windsor Grove Cemetery. To honour Shirley’s wishes, and in lieu of flowers, donations to Emmanuel United Church or the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated.
