PATTERSON, Trudy à It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Trudy Faith Patterson (nee Thompson) on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Woodstock General Hospital. Much adored wife of the late Gerry Patterson (2005), and loving mother to Myla Burman of Toronto. Trudy is lovingly remembered by her siblings Terry Thompson (Sally) of Woodstock, Larry Thompson (Bev) of Assiniboia , Saskatchewan, Shelley Thompson (Fred Gale) of Southey, Saskatchewan, and her brother-in-law Ken Paulson of Pincher Creek, Alberta, as well as her many nieces, nephews and special friends, notably Robin and Jane Wight of Mississauga. She will also be missed by her many relatives in the Patterson family. Predeceased by her parents, Doug (2003) and Patricia Thompson (nee Cowan) (2008) of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, her sister Patricia Paulson (1993) and a nephew Marcus Paulson (2005). Trudy was a connoisseur of many things, and could hold her own in conversations of fine wine, food, fashion, décor, pop culture, politics, art, music and sports. Her love of wonderful food led her to a successful 25 year career in the test kitchen of Chatelaine Magazine until her retirement in 2001 which was followed by years of teaching cooking at Strewn Wineries in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Although Trudy left Saskatchewan as a young woman to make her life first in Montreal, and then in Toronto, before retiring to St. Catharines, and her final home in Woodstock, her roots as a farm girl ran deep and were readily evidenced by her great love of animals and her ability to make things grow. An avid gardener, Trudy’s guests were often greeted by the profusions of pink geraniums that adorned her balcony. Trudy sowed seeds of friendship and love wherever she went. Her vast garden of friends is a testament to the great internal beauty she possessed and her love she so willingly shared. She will be lovingly remembered by many. Friends are invited to visit with family at the SMITH-LeROY FUNERAL HOME, 69 Wellington Street North, Woodstock on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 7 à 9 PM and again on Friday, May 2, 2014 from 1 à 3 PM. A celebration of Trudy’s life will take place on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 3 PM in the chapel with Rev. V. Jane Van Patter to officiate. Interment will take place in Saskatchewan at a later date. If desired, memorial donations to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated and can be made through the Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, 519-537-3611.
