The family of Lloyd Martin announce his passing on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the age of 87 years. We give thanks for his life well lived. Lloyd was born in East Selkirk, MB on the farm of his parents Florence and Jim Martin on October 1, 1929. He was the youngest of three sons.
He was predeceased by his parents Jim and Florence; brother Ralph; sister-in-law Bernice Stuart; and brothers-in-law Jim Lennox and Wayne Stuart.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lois; brother Wilfred (Lois), East Selkirk; sisters-in-law Roberta, East Selkirk, Pat Lennox, Regina and Maxine (Bob) Sloboda, Oshawa; brother-in-law Jeff (Ann) Self of Regina; children Jocelyn (Glen) Duck, Regina, Robert (Azusena) Whistler, BC and Brian (Camillia) Vernon, BC; daughter-in-law Kari Sargeant Vernon, BC; grandchildren Michael (Tanna), Gregory, Kayla, Emma, Aidan and Layla; as well as numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.
Lloyd attended school in East Selkirk and United College in Winnipeg. He worked for his parents on the farm, Manitoba Hydro, CNR telegraphs in Alberta and BC, then he came to Regina and was employed at the Co-op Refinery for 35 years as a Stationary Steam Engineer. Lloyd loved farming and kept up to date with the operations of his brothers’ farm. He enjoyed his work at the Co-op Refinery and the fellowship with the men.
Lloyd and his family travelled across Canada and the USA. In retirement he travelled to England, Barbados, Hawaii, the Arctic and Alaska.
He was fond of his garden, looking after the church yard, and the church building projects.
Lloyd worked as a volunteer at Marian Centre Soup Kitchen for 25 years, served on the Co-op social club, especially the children’s picnics and parties. Lloyd also served 40 years at St. Alban’s/ Holy Trinity Church and 11 years at St. Mary’s Anglican Church.
Many thanks to those who supported us in his illness: Pioneer Village Day Program, Respite Program, Para Transit, the Alzheimer Society, Santa Maria Senior Citizen Nursing Home (2nd floor), Dr. D Warden and the social workers at S.W.A.D.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at St Mary’s Anglican Church, 3337 15th Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Claude Schroeder officiant.
